A DETAILED STUDY OF THE WATER RESOURCES
SITUATION IN BANGALORE

Preamble :

Project Agastya has taken up an ambitious mission to develop, initiate & implement Sustainable Solutions for Water Resources Management in Bangalore.

This Project is the first of its kind in the country. It involves not just the issues relating to the BWSSB, but also to many other departments, boards/agencies & organisation. It also involves the demand side of Water Resources. To develop, initiate & implement better & more efficient Water Resources Management in Bangalore, we need to first understand the actual situation & issues relating to the Water Resources Management in Bangalore. For this we need a set of reliable data & information on the subject.

There is a great deal of data & information that has been collected & made available with the stakeholders. This should have been collected over a period of the last 5 years. Our experience & understanding of the domain shows that the studies conducted by different organisations are relative to their respective fields of activities, ignoring many of the relevant factors of influence.

Our Study would first try to compile all the data available with the various organisations, and understand the inference that we get from this, identify the gaps & holes in the data collected. We would be undertaking an extensive Primary survey to fill the gaps and rectify any errors in the compiled data.

This Study would assist us in drafting a Draft Policy for the Government of Karnataka, and to develop a set of Sustainable Solutions for Water Resources Management in Bangalore, as well as prioritise our Plan to implement the above.

We should also be able to identify the suitable cleaner technology/techniques that may be offered to the stakeholders for implementation.

This Study is expected to take about 6 months (from the date of initiation) for completion. The date of initiation would depend on the arrival of funds/grants from our sponsors/donors. We have approached a few organisations for this, viz., FKCCI, SAIL, KSPCB, Alliance to Save Energy (USA), Corporates, etc.
